When it comes to Sherlock cosplay, no outfit is complete without a long scarf trailing in the wind.

I used this pattern for the scarf. It’s a fairly simple pattern. All you need to know are the knit and purl stitches.

Materials:

  • A lot of dark blue yarn (650 yards +)
  • Long size 7 knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Start by casting on to the size 7 knitting needles. Start with seed stitch. For a tutorial, click here.

After 20 rows, start with garter (knit) stitch.

After the garter stitch set, go back to doing seed stitch.

This creates a unique texture between the sets, as I call them, of seed stitch and garter stitch.

Continue on with the 2 sets of stitches until it is 70 inches long, or you run out of yarn. It will look a little wavy (like pictured below). Make sure a seed stitch set is the end set for the scarf.

Just add a black wool overcoat and Sherlock is coming together.

Anyone up for a good mystery? The game is afoot.
