I am Groot! Groot is one of my favorite characters from Gardians of the Galaxy, actually I think he is my favorite character. Who doesn’t like a talking tree?

Baby Groot was quite easy to make. I used this pattern to crochet him. I hope you have fun crocheting him too.

Materials:

  1. Bulky cotton brown yarn (any tree like yarn will work)
  2. A size I crochet hook
  3. Fiberfill
  4. Pipe cleaner
  5. A pair of black snap in eyes
  6. Some scrap black yarn

I started at the beginning with the head. For the top, I didn’t do as many peaks. As you can see the yarn was thick. But it gives it more of a wood look, in my opinion. Put in eyes when it looks like this. I usually struggle to put them in, but the ones I used this time were easy to snap in.

For the top of his head, a circle is crocheted and sewn in place. I tried to join it with out showing much of a seam. The head is stuffed with fiberfill to keep it nice and round. I didn’t get a picture of the little branches that get sewn to his head.

Here is the bace of his trunk. As you can see it’s actually a good size around, but still small.

His head looks so big for his body. The head was tricky to sew on and make sure it’s secure. He looks so cute.

The arms are very thin and twig like. The pattern shows how the arms are to be positioned around the pipe cleaner.

Here he is all sewn together. Weave in and snip off all the ends and you have a little Groot. But he isn’t done yet.

I added a mouth using a needle to loop in some black yarn. Any scrap would work for this. Now he looks so happy.

And here he is. I decided not to add leaves or vines, however, he still is super cute. Since I don’t have a pot yet, maybe next semester, I put him in a plastic glass and added some green to look like grass growing around him.

He’s as thin as a twig. Because he can easily bend, it looks like he is dancing to some ’80s music.

I hope you are able to have as much fun as I did creating this dancing tree. Some day, I hope to make him a tiny pot.
