Here is the friend to my Winter Soldier beanie. It’s so patriotic. Just like Captian America and his shield. I’m super excited to see Infinity War pt1. It’s going to be epic. But for now I have to enjoy the current Marvel movies.

If you want to see the Winter Soldier Beanie and how I made that click here. I use the exact same hat pattern. For the star I used this pattern.

Materials:

  1. Size 6 double sided knitting needles (I used 5 needles)
  2. Size 7 double sided knitting needles (I used size 8)
  3. Red yarn
  4. White yarn
  5. Blue ( I used lighter blue, but dark blue would look more authentic)
  6. A yarn needle to sew star to hat.

To start the hat, I decided to use 4 double sided size 6 needles to hold my yarn while knitting the ribbing. Dividing the stitches by 4 was easier for me to handle when knitting this and the Winter Soldier beanie. I chose red to start with, because it is the first color of Cap’s Shield. Any cast on method is fine, I just use a tighter method found here. I followed the hat pattern when it came to the ribbing.

Knit the ribbing in red for 3 inches. Once the first 3 inches, out of 4, are done switch to white. Knit the ribbing in white for 1 inch. Knit 2 inches of the pattern in white when finished with the ribbing.

Once 3 inches total in the white have been knit, switch back to red. Once done with the white it should be 6 inches total. After knitting about 2inches in red, the decreasing for the top should begin. Knit until the red is 3 inches long.

Once the second 3 inch stripe of red is done join on the blue. Now I didn’t have any darker blue, so I had to use a lighter blue. I think it still turned out alright, but would have looked much better as a darker blue. You will be using the blue to finish up the hat, so no more changing colors.

What’s with the hair band? Well, I found it easier to keep the stitches on the needles when I did keep the band on. I also used it to keep the bottom of the hat from flaring out and catching on the needles.

So this is the beanie before the I added the star. Well I actually I did, but it’s not pictured here.

Sew the star on the top of the beanie. It is to look like the star on the Cap’s shield.

Here it is final beanie. It looks like Cap’s shield, only in beanie form. It is a great friend to the Winter Soldier Beanie.

I hope you enjoy making this!
